Ideal Vacation
From my favorite weather blog:
2008 Spring Break Storm Chase (March 23-30)
–There are six seats open for 2008 Spring Break Storm Chasing.
–This year’s cost is $600 for a seven-day chase trip. (Any internet-advertised chase tours would charge you between $1,995 and $3,000 for a six-day trip)
–This helps pay for van rental, van insurance, hotel, gas, & some misc. chase equipment, but does not include food or other things you may want to buy when out in Tornado Alley.
–Leaving State College, Pa. on March 23 probably in the afternoon or evening and returning on March 30.
–During the week, we will chase anywhere severe weather takes us in Tornado Alley. We will probably drive overnight on the twenty-third to get to Tornado Alley by the evening of the twenty-fourth.
–Hotel rooms will be four chasers/room.
–Vans will be five chasers to each mini-van, or 10 chasers in a 15 passenger van.
–Shawn, of course, cannot guarantee things such as intercepting a tornado, severe thunderstorm, or even a bolt of lightning because of the variability of weather patterns. March, however, is when severe thunderstorm season first starts to really fire up, and he has had success last year with intercepting tornadoes, large hail and severe thunderstorms
