Why I Now Support John McCain

Published by Jenn under Politics

While he remained in the race, I was a steadfast Huckabee supporter. I even supported Mike when everyone decided it was “mathematically impossible” for him to win the nomination. I stayed a supporter because I believe that the primaries serve as the party rank and file’s opportunity to express their opinions and values through their vote. I only wish that the Republican race had made it to Pennsylvania.

I have read many comments on the net where Huckabee, and other former candidate’s supporters, have vowed to either not vote or to vote for a third party candidate. Believe me when I say a vote for John McCain, is a vote for Conservative principles. I say this not because John McCain is the perfect Conservative candidate. He is absolutely not the dream candidate. However, truth be told, the weakest conservative beats the best liberal any day. To illustrate this point:

  1. John McCain intends on appointing strict constructionist judges who will rule according to the Constitution not try to amend the Constitution.
  2. John McCain supports eliminating pork-barrel spending. Imagine how much leaner our budgets would be without pork-barrel spending. (If you are not familiar with the term pork barrel spending click here for a definition.)
  3. You won’t see a John McCain flinch when it comes to standing up to America’s foes.
  4. John McCain is pro-life and pro-family.

Conversely, let me remind of what the Democrats want to do with our money:

  1. Universal health care
  2. Universal pre-k (yes, the current education system is broken, let’s fix it by making it bigger)
  3. A $5,000 savings bond for every child born (along with a chicken in every pot, a car in every garage, to fulfill the perfect nanny state)
  4. Appoint liberal judges who feel the need to redefine the Constitution with liberal values.
  5. Cut and run from Iraq and weaken our military and national security

I think when you contrast the agendas it is easy to see why it is necessary for people of common sense to rally around John McCain. Yes, he has flaws. However, his flaws still rank him high above our Democratic choices. Conservative voters do not withdraw and pout that you did not get your choice. Instead, rally around the best option for a Conservative President. That choice is John McCain.

Remembering the Blizzard of 1993

Published by Jenn under Weather

We are coming up on the 15th anniversary of the Blizzard of 1993 (March 12-13) and I stumbled upon this old WPXI coverage of the storm.  Enjoy!  It’s the closest thing to a blizzard we seem to be getting in the ‘burgh this year.
