This Week’s Quit Hits

Jenn May 30th, 2008

  • I think I might almost be over round 2 of bronchitis - I think the Vicks on the feet might actually help (who knows why?)  Buddy actually seems a bit afraid of the coughing fits and tends to flee once they commence.
  • The Dems meet tomorrow to decide the fate of the Michigan and Florida delegates - get ready for a circus of spin.
  • Wii Fit is awesome - I haven’t been able to use it much due to illness.
  • Cranes keep collapsing in Manhattan, whi9ch is where my brother works - makes me nervous every time.
  • Google previewed Android and to be honest - it looked pretty lame.  Verizon Wireless has snubbed Android in favor of LiMo.
  • The iPhone 2 is about to be released for 3G just as most other carriers are beginning the move to 4g (LTE).
  • One can’t help wonder if Scotty McClellan is broke.

The Deal of the Decade

Jenn May 23rd, 2008

Bloomberg.com: Worldwide

Reports are surfacing that the Obama and Clinton campaign are in talks to broker a deal where Senator Clinton would be Obama’s VP pick.  I can almost hear the son, “Falling in Love Again” beginning to chime.

Will She Take it to the Floor?

Jenn May 22nd, 2008

The cat is out of the bag. It seems as though Democratic presidential hopeful, Senator Hillary Clinton, plans on taking her fight to the floor of the DNC Convention, which will take place August 25-28 in Denver, Colorado. Senator Clinton is insisting that the she has the popular vote. She does seem to have the popular vote – if you count the delegates from Michigan and Florida who have been disqualified for breaking party rules.

The Dems have quite a quandary on their hands. First, take the issue of super delegates. These super delegates are not new; they have been around since 1982. According to the DNC, they comprise about 19%, or nearly one fifth, of the delegates at the convention. The quandary with the super delegates is that they have the ability to supersede the will of the majority, or so it seems.

The second quandary is in identifying the “popular vote”. How can anyone really know who has a hold on the popular vote in the nomination process with so many stated utilizing the caucus meth of selecting delegates versus the primary method?

Third, what do the Dems do with Michigan and Florida? If they seat them, the Obama people will be furious. I can’t say that I blame them. The DNC warned those states that their delegates would not be seated if they went against party rules and so Senator Obama did little to no campaigning in those states. Is it really fair to change the rules after the fact? However, Michigan and Florida are key states. Do the Dems really want to risk losing voters in those states? “Oh, what a tangled web they weave…..” (Sir Walter Scott)

The Republicans couldn’t be more thrilled with the quandaries that the Dems are facing and the media tastes the potential for frenzy at the convention already, like my dog waits with baited breath while I am cooking a steak. It looks like it is going to be a long hot summer for the Democrats. Just think: all of these quandaries before we even really get to the general elections.

RealClearPolitics - Articles - McCain Won’t Play by Obama’s Rules

I haven’t been thrilled with Bob Novak’s political analysis this year, but he has a good article explaining how the two parties are trying to define the presidential race this year.
