The Huckabee/Obama Gun Joke Flap
Some might end up calling it “Gungate” or “Huckgate” but what it is in reality is a bad joke. Mike Huckabee, while being distracted by a loud noise made a bad joke about Senator Obama. The video clip is below:
It was a bad joke. It was tasteless, it was not funny, and it was offensive. Had it been a premeditated joke I would be really upset. However, the context demonstrates that the crack was made off of the top of his head. As soon as I saw the headline plastered atop the Drudge Report, I knew an apology would quickly follow, which it it did. I knew an apology would follow because of what I have seen from Mike Huckabee over the past year. I have heard him be the sole Republican to extend grace to Senator Obama and Rev. Jeremiah Wright out of sincerity and compassion. I have heard his heart to bring people together as much as possible instead of driving them apart. I believe that Huckabee’s apology suffices for his remarks:
During my speech at the NRA a loud noise backstage, that sounded like a chair falling, distracted the crowd and interrupted my speech. I made an off hand remark that was in no way intended to offend or disparage Sen. Obama. I apologize that my comments were offensive, that was never my intention.
Let’s hope we can get back to the issues now.
