Do you have time delay, or do you just take lots of pictures until you get one, or do you just have a quick finger?
Jonathan and I watched the lightning last night and we wondered about taking some pictures, but I wasn’t sure if it would work, so didn’t go upstairs to get the camera.
As I understand it (which is at the novice level), you have 2 options. First, you can set your camera to the longest exposure possible and pray for a strike to occur during that period. Secondly you can set the shutter to bulb and release the shutter at the moment of strike – if you have quick enough reflexes. I believe it also helps to set ISO at 100-2000 and the aperture around 8 – but those settings seem to vary a bit based on distance of the storm and ambient light. It is also recommended to use a tripod and remote shutter release (cable). I don’t have the latter yet, but can see the advantages.
Your camera is fancier than mine – one of the disadvantages of having a cheaper digital camera, though it is plenty expensive for me…
We have one setting that is for night shots, and makes the shutter a little slower, but I think it isn’t really all that slow.
I also might try the setting that takes 4 pictures right in a row.
