At South Hills Village, the fruity employees had shoppers corralled between ropes a fair distance back from, the entrance to the store to manage "the crowd". In actuality, the ropes created the appearance of a crowd. The whole this was a joke. The best part of the joke, however are these pictures I snagged with my LG Dare and uploaded via MMS to Flickr. Why is that funny? Because the iPhone's camera isn't that hot and the iPhone does not come with standard MMS. So, you can stand in line (more than likely with a fair share of Barrack Obama supporters) and wait for your precious iPhone, only to pay a lot more for service, or you can take the quick jaunt down to the other end of the mall to pick up the superior LG Dare.

* Notes:
1. LG made touch screen phones long before Apple so don't even think about posting an ignorant comment about LG copying Apple. LG copied themselves (see LG Prada).
2. Any feeble attempts by Apple fan boys or girls to defend Apple or slam Microsoft will be immediately removed and perhaps banned form the blog - it is my blog after all. I don't have to be fair. :)

I consider it a little bit of Schadenfreude, but I do feel some joy out of this. I will say that the iPhone does have some advantages over the Dare (Safari being the biggest), but the Dare more than holds its own. I tried to type on the iPhone and I was having a lot of problems. Meanwhile, I have used the Dare and found that typing is a breeze.
I think it’s just a matter of personal preference. If you’re an apple freak, the most natural thing to do is get an iPhone. But if you’re trying to be economical, you can knock it out of the picture without a moments’ pause. It does seem to have the upper hand when it comes to cosmetics, but that facet is irrelevant. From what I’ve seen of it, the Dare is a pretty capable phone, but a bit on the expensive side (though cheaper than the iPhone).
They’re both pretty good phones, but the Nokia 5300 is a lot cheaper, and while it has a LOT less in the bells and whistles department, it gets the job done. That’s what I look for in a phone… when I look at all.
“Dare is a pretty capable phone, but a bit on the expensive side (though cheaper than the iPhone”
People have purchased the Dare for well under $100. The cost depends on the last time you upgraded your phone and customer loyalty bonuses.
For me, I find the pricing from the manufacturer an irrelevant facet. You can always find a better deal on Craigslist.
And I don’t say that because I like the iPhone and it needs defending- I’ve found both Dare & iPhone for cheaper. I’m just kind of a stingy guy, so I’m always looking for the cheaper deal. And even if the contract is too expensive, just unlock it.
Unlocking a phone can actually default the user’s agreement, thus making it illegal. It all depends on how you do it.
Unlocking still limits your choice of carriers, though because Verizon, Sprint and Altell use CDMA technology and AT&T and others use GSM.
What are the benefits to CDMA over GSM? I know there are some, I just don’t know what they are.
Lower power usage and longer range. I don’t know enough about GSM to know if CDMA has any protocol improvements, or if that is even a proper statement to make. We studied CDMA and TDMA in school. I suspect that GSM has more to do with frequencies than a communication protocol change.
