CNN, MSNBC News Anchors=Obama Surrogates
Jenn August 30th, 2008
A lot has been made about the news bias favoring Barack Obama, and I for one have believed and have seen it, but now I am disgusted with the coverage. Today, I tuned into CNN to see how the networks were responding to John McCain’s pick of Sarah Palin for VP and listened to a reporter demonstrate bias with his words, but also with his body language and tone in a negative manner when asking a “question” (was more rhetorical and attacking in nature) of a reporter who was reporting live from Washington, PA. This anchor was not an analyst - he was an anchor. I believe it was T. J. Harris. Anderson Cooper has also been noticed with smug looks and remarks towards the McCain campaign. Bill Cafferty is almost unforgivable in his remarks and Lou Dobbs would crown anyone king or queen who would “fix” illegal immigration (as if there is a simple fix).
Slightly worse than CNN, is MSNBC. MSNBC has nearly self-destructed due to its one-sided coverage of Barack Obama. Last week, Pennsylvania Governor Ed Rendell declared MSNBC the, “official network of the Obama campaign” last week and called their coverage of Senator Obama “embarrassing.” Red-faced MSNBC host Chris Matthews blamed Rendell’s remarks on Rendell’s partiality towards the Clintons. MSNBC has seen on and off air explosions between their news people regarding the biased reporting. MSNBC has done a terrible job of honoring Tim Russert’s legacy.
I understand when analysts through their opinions with their broadcasting, but when news anchors do cast their views my way, it is blatantly unprofessional. The only news anchor/host in the media today, outside of Fox News, that shows any sense of objectivity is Larry King, who manages to treat each guest fairly and respectfully. I miss the day of watching the news and reporters reporting a story minus the spin. Of course there were biases then, but they were more in check and not as flagrant. Maybe that day is gone for good.
Barack Obama Visits Greater Pittsburgh Area
Jenn August 30th, 2008
I had the chance to go see Senator Barack Obama as he visited the greater Pittsburgh area tonight. He delivered his same old stump speech. After being an hour late, he spoke for a whopping 10-15 minutes.
I got some OK pictures, but because it was late I had to use a long exposure and hold my camera above my head, which led to some pretty shakey pictures. Head on over to Flickr to take a peek.

McCain Picks Palin
Jenn August 29th, 2008
John McCain picked a traditional conservative as his running mate. No surprise there. The surprise when was McCain picked a woman as his running mate, in a clear attempt to go after those 18 million cracks that Hillary Clinton has boasted about for months.
Sarah Palin is the mother of five children, the youngest under a year old with Downs Syndrome. Plain has pretty much done it all:
- Played basketball (won a H.S. state championship) - earned the nickname Sarah Barracuda
- Hunts and fishes (she eats moose meat)
- Loves the outdoors and sports (plays hockey)
- Has been a sportscaster
- Is a former mayor
- Cleaned house and dismissed many appointees made by the former Governor of Arkansas, an administration associated with corruption
- Sold the state owned jet purchased by previous Governor, saving Alaska millions of dollars each year
- Is only 44 years old
Obama Speech: More of the Same
Jenn August 29th, 2008
If you listened to Joe Biden or any of the Democrats speak at the convention this week, you would have heard the chant, “More of the same” in reference to John McCain continuing the Bush administration’s policies. Well, after listening to Barrack Obama’s speech last night, I have concluded that his speech was more of the same. It was more of the same old Democrat tax and spend platform.
Although Obama’s speech was flawless in delivery and the setting could not have been better for the senator, as he appeared before 80,000 plus adoring fans and the Republicans who prayed for rain were left disappointed, Obama’s speech revealed who he really is: a traditional tax and spend Democrat.
Gustav Might Have Company

As gulf coast residents worry about impressive Gustav, it appears as though the Gustav has one, possibly too trailers on the way. If you haven’t filled your gas tank, I would highly recommend that you do it now.

Hurricanes and political conventions, who could ask for anything more? Expect the price of oil to climb again as Hurricane Gustav makes its way through the Gulf of Mexico over the next week. Gustav will likely make landfall in the gulf early next week. Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal has already advised residents to be ready. Jindal is reportedly on GOP presidential hopeful John McCain’s, short list for VP.
Even Without the Nomination, Clintons Steal the Show

Bill Clinton to Skip Obama Speech at Invesco Field - America’s Election HQ
The Dems are convening in Denver for the coronation of Senator Obama, but it is the Clintons who are stealing the show. Pundits have been almost obsessed with Hillary Clinton’s speech, Bill Clinton’s speech, the roll call vote, and now, with the fact that Bill Clinton will skip Senator Obama’s speech at Mile High Stadium on Thursday. So, much to the Obama campaign’s chagrin, there is an apparent lack of unity and the Clintons have played the spoilers and the GOP has been left smiling.
Obama Perpetuates Messianic Image With Stage

ABC News: Obama Speech Stage Resembles Ancient Greek Temple
Senator Obama will appear on a stage set that has the appearance of a ancient Greek temple as he delivers his acceptance speech on the 45th anniversary of Martin Luther King Jr.’s, “I have a dream” speech.
The McCain campaign has mocked Senator Obama for what seems to be his “messianic complex” in an ad featuring Charlton Heston as Moses in “The Ten Commandments”.
