RealClearPolitics – Articles – Can McCain Really Win Pennsylvania?
With 21 electoral votes up for grabs, Pennsylvania may be on of the definitive states in this year’s election. Pennsylvania has traditionally gone to the Democrats (Blue state) with the exception of the Reagan era.
Salena Zito has written a decent analysis of McCain’s chances in PA. At this point, PA is up for grabs, which favors McCain.
What the national pundits fail to recognize is that the Dems in the western part of PA are not liberal, their Democratic roots are more tied to the labor movement, which has seen a diminishing effect as traditional labor jobs have given way to tech jobs and Pittsburgh’s dominance in the health care industry.
The “T” in Pennsylvania usually goes Republican. If John McCain can take Western PA and grab just a bit of the east, he can pull of PA. It’s going to be a nail-biter.
