A Plea for Pragmatism

With less than three days left until the election, I am issuing one final plea for pragmatism. I do not personally know one person who voted for John McCain in the primaries. I liked John McCain, but he wasn't mu guy. I respected John McCain's service to our country, but he wasn't Conservative enough for me. However, for better or worse, we currently have a predominantly two party system in the United States and John McCain represents the more Conservative values of the two major candidates for president.

It is unlikely that Bob Barr and Ralph Nader will accrue even two percent of the popular vote collectively. I understand the desire to vote for a third party candidate to make a statement, send a message, or stand for what you believe. However, now is not the time to do those things. We simply cannot afford idealism when so much is at stake. In case you forgot, here is a reminder of the radical things Obama stands for:

  • Abortion on demand, without parental notification
  • Partial birth abortions
  • Not supporting infant survivors of abortion
  • Appointing radical liberal judges to the court who will implement wealth redistribution
  • Redistribution of wealth based on his judgment of fairness
  • Pulling out of Iraq, even though the mission is nearing a successful end
  • Limiting the right to bear arms
  • Universal Pre-k which will be another means of dictating how parents raise their kids
  • Meeting with rogue nations without preconditions
  • Universal healthcare, opening the door for euthanasia and eugenics
  • Class warfare

These items are not the total of Senator Obama's far leftist ideas; they are symptomatic of his left wing agenda. It's an agenda which will weaken us to terrorists and rogue nations, hurt our economy, cause further division instead of harmony between people of different economic statuses, and lead us towards a larger nanny state.

Even worse have been the things that happen on the side during Senator Obama's campaign. He recently denied continued access to three reporters who represented newspapers that endorsed John McCain (NY Post, Washington Times, and the Dallas Morning News) and replaced them with journalists from pop culture magazines. He supports Nancy Pelosi's passion to reinstate the fairness doctrine (yes, there's that word again – fair) which could silence the voices we hear on Conservative talk radio like Quinn and Rose, Glenn Beck, Rush Limbaugh, and Sean Hannity. He is about silencing those who disagree with him, try to hold him accountable, or pose a threat to his power.

Yes, John McCain is more moderate than Conservative. However, there is a stark difference between John the Moderate and Barrack the Leftist. Three Supreme Court Judges hang in the balance as do countless other federal judges. Can you really trust a man with such shady friends (Jeremiah Wright, Father Flager, Tony Rezko, Bill Ayers, Rashid Khalidi– just to name a few)? Can you really a trust a man who isn't just pro-choice, but who is outright anti-life? Can you really trust a man who is willing to run from Iraq and insult the sacrifice of so many, leaving a country on the verge of relative stability to the hands of terrorists? Can you really trust a man who knows nothing of foreign relations to answer the phone at 3:00 AM to deal with a nuclear threat from a rogue nation? Can you really trust a man who insults Israel, our closest ally in the Middle East by minimizing threat from Iran and toasting former PLO spokesmen? No – you cannot trust Barrack Obama, but whether he is Conservative enough or not for your taste or not, you can trust John McCain.

Vote for moderate values, vote against far left ideals. Sacrifice your preference for pragmatism. Vote for John McCain.

This post showed up very close chronologically to another blog that I read that spoke of not voting lukewarm, but voting hot or cold. Interesting idea, though I have to say I resonate more with what you are saying.

Also, have you watched the “end of america” talk (about the book of the same name?) I don’t know enough to verify all of the facts (though I’m tempted to go try to burn a cd) and I don’t know that it really speaks to voting for either of the “two” candidates – it seems like these issues should be more important to people, but I haven’t heard hardly anyone talking about them.
