Dems play Hardball: Their way or the Highway

Both President Obama and Democratic Senate leader Harry Reid came out swinging yesterday as Republicans called for the unprecedented spending bill before the Senate to be trimmed.

Reid pronounced:
They cannot hold the president of the United States hostage," he said. "And if they think they can rewrite this bill ... they've got another thing coming.

So much for that bi-partisan spirit.  Senate Democratic Whip, Dick Durbin, continued the rhetoric of fear with by chiding, "Every time we lop off $100 billion, we're lopping off jobs..."

Republican alternatives presented by noted bi-partisan Republican Senators John McCain and Lindsey Graham to cut payroll and income taxes were quickly shot down by Democratic leaders.

For the last eight years we heard nothing but complaints about the "cowboy" attitude of President Bush and and criticism of Republican lawmakers that they were unwilling to compromise and work with Democrats.  The Democrats and President Obama promised us something different.  To be sure, it is different, it's worse.  Speaker Pelosi reversed rules put into place by Newt Gingrich's "Contract with America" that paved the way for both parties to have a greater role in crafting legislation.

Again, it's not just more of the same, it worse than the same.
