In Pennsylvania you can get taxed for just about anything. In Pennsylvania, you have the privilege of paying: local, state, and even city "right to work" taxes. Pennsylvania taxes you when you smoke, drink, shop (except food and clothes), and even when you die. Now Democrats in that want to tax companies who "Drill, baby, drill" along the Marcellus Shale Shelf. Now, to most of us in Western PA, the Marcellus Shale is probably foreign. From my very non-scientific understanding, it is a layer of shale that runs up through Central - Eastern PA through NY and has recently become a a hotspot for gas wells. This drilling has brought revenue, not to the rich, but mostly rural people. I was recently in Bradford County, Pa and they were conducting seismological tests to look for new areas to drill.
With OPEC holding the price of fuel over our heads, with regular people, not just Wall Street people, standing to gain from such exploration Gov. Rendell and a coalition of tree-huggers want to tax drilling. The economy is struggleing and he wants to take money out of the pockets of the people who congregate at Grange Halls and other small town establishments. Unbelievable! I know some of the people who have recieved revenue from gas wells rights on their land. They aren't all rich, well they weren't when the drilling started. So, here come the Democrats to rip away someone else's American dream.
