In case you aren’t a regular news follower, you might have missed what I consider a three-pronged attack against the grassroots Tea Party movement.
A Little Background
The Tea Party movement was birthed out of an on-air emotional outburst by Rick Santelli calling on residents of Chicago to stage a “Tea Party” in the spirit of the Boston Tea Party to protest against out of control government spending. The movement spread rapidly and soon a national grassroots effort to stage Tea Parties in cities across the U.S. grew. The Tax Day Tea Parties were well attended and occurred without incident.
The First Prong
The first prong of the Tax Day Tea party attacks was leaked days before the Tea Parties by U.s. Attorney General in the form of a terror alert. The alert targeted “right wing extremists” who were focused on one issue. The alert mentioned particular returning veterans from the Persian Gulf arena possessing the skills for combat.
This type of terror alert was meant scare moderate, mild-mannered Americans from speaking out. This type of political maneuver is an outrage. To think the President Obama’s administration would engage in such disgraceful tactics is sickening. It is, however, par for the course. It strikes a familiar ring to his campaign’s instructions for his supporter’s to “get in the faces” of those who were strong McCain supporters. While posing as an administration of peace, it seems to growing more clear that the President may not be a man of peace, but a man of means. To be honest, the Attorney General’s terror warning made me wonder if I myself might be a future target for not shying away form Conservative values. The Left painted President Bush as a hostile man who shut out anyone who disagreed with him, yet , he never came close to this type of passive-aggressive censorship.
Second Prong
Speaker of the House, Nancy Pelosi, attempted to discredit the movement by referring to it as “astro-turfing” as opposed to true “grassroots”. She assailed the movement by stating that it was funded by the wealthy. There are at least two problems with the Speaker’s statement. First, she made a baseless accusation which isn’t true. The Tea Parties were funded locally by donations of the attendees and sometimes out of the not so deep pockets of the organizers. Second, the Speaker invoked class warfare. What if the parties were funded by the wealthy? Why do we have a hypocritical government, who are wealthy themselves, trying to turn Americans against each other.
The Third Prong
The third wave of attacks came in the form of our good friend in the mainstream media. Reporters searched for the most inarticulate attendees of the Tea Parties, engaged them in argument instead of reporting, and intentionally under-reported the events. Some member of the fourth estate stooped to vulgarity and infantile insults when reporting the story
From Here
The lines are becoming more clear. If you don’t agree with the President and the far left wing of the Democratic Party, you are a hater, ignorant, and closed minded. I don’t believe that this mentality reflects the majority of everyday Democrats. However, the way the Left is pushing its vitriol, common sense, moderate Democrats will be forced to pick a side.
