Gadgets and Apps

I have, over time, evolved into a tech geek. I think you can blame my brother Chuck (Eric) for this, since he bought me my first PC.
Last night I was amused when my friend asked about the purpose of the different tech paraphernalia I had brought with me to the track, so I decided the topic would be a good blog post.
Let's start with the water bottle that a friend recommended I buy to help keep track of how much water I am drinking since I am not a huge fan of water. The bottle is the
Hydracoach.
The Hydracoach calculates how much water you should be drinking daily and keeps track of your consumption. It will even tell you how much you are averaging per hour. I am not totally sold on it yet, but I have been using it since I went to the trouble of ordering it.
Then there is my Zune 80. I know everyone thinks that Apple is the end all be all of the computer and music world right now, but I am not a fan. I consider Apple products over priced and lacking the originality that they so proudly boast. Quite frankly, they under-deliver. Ever notice what the clerks in the Apple stores are carrying around as hand-help registers? Hardware featuring Windows Mobile. I rest my case. (BTW: I will delete any comments defending Apple or slamming Microsoft - not welcome here) I could just put my music on my phone, but I have an armband for my Zune and I don't like cluttering up my phone with a lot of music. I may do that someday, but I am not there yet. Besides my Zune holds tons of photos and videos, has an FM radio, and has the ability to download from the Zune Marketplace anywhere there is a WiFi. Did I mention how great the Zune Pass is?
I also started using the Polar F6 heart rate monitor when I work out. It helps me to maximize the effectiveness of my workout by concentrating on keeping within my target heart rate zone. I might add that Polar is a good Finnish company.
Recently, I have added my phone to the mix of workout tools. I am currently using the Samsung Omnia with a WM 6.1 platform. In addition to getting sever weather alerts while working out, I have downloaded a couple of workout apps (for free) that use the internal GPS to track my distance and my pace.
I am also using the following apps for different things:
- PocketTwit
- Shozu
- Samsung Widgets - Quickdial, Accuweather, CNN, Live Search, Opera Browser
- Berean ESV Bible
- Bike Dashboard
- Book Sync
- Microsoft Facebook
- Google Maps
- Live Search
- NewsBreak
- Shake and Save
- Track My Run
- VZO Mobile
- Amaze GPS
- FIM
I use other apps, but these are the primary ones, if you can call such a list primary. These apps keep me up and running. some people gather technology and don't actually use it. Anyone who knows me well, knows I actually use it.
