Well, this weekend we are in for a complicated Nor'easter. The question remains, what kind of precipitation will we get? The answer is, nobody knows. Oh, I am quite sure that if you look at the weather right now (Thur night) it will tell you that we are going to get rain or pretty much nothing. But the truth is that the computer models used to create these forecasts have had a hard time handling this storm.
Right now, it looks as if it is possible for W. PA to get rain, freezing rain/sleet, and snow. Our temps look like they will be right above freezing. The cold surface with our nice little snowpack will make rain that falls on 34 degree temps turn to freezing rain. The bad news is,that if the models are trending correctly, we are in for a lot of precipitation Sunday through Monday. That of course would mean downed power lines.
However, it could go either way, all warm or all cold. Personally, I don't think the models have reached their solution yet. They are getting closer, but not there. The trends have been for colder and more northwest. Basically bringing more precip our way with colder temps. I still think, though we still have a ways to go, we could get decent snow out of this. I am not issuing a storm map yet because the models have so far to go. I expect to issue one either Friday night or Saturday morning, but I wanted to give people a head's up that we could have some trouble since this is a holiday weekend (for we federal government people.)
