JennCast Storm Update

Feb 06

image

Well over a foot of snow has fallen in Pittsburgh since it started snowing around lunchtime on Friday. Reports of freezing fog, thunder snow, disruptions in public transportation services, and closed roads and highways littered with accidents are just a few issues facing Pittsburghers. Currently, over 100,000 customerd are without power and I am one of them. Heavy wet snow has been bringing down limbs and power lines throughout the evening. Fortunately, I have been able to post this update with my Droid.

The JennCast calls for continued light to moderate snow throughout the day Saturday before tapering off in the afternoon.

My neighbor, Ron, has. Been busy snowblowing the walks...thanks, Ron!

It’s Been a While….

Mar 05

So..... it's been a while since I paid attention to the blog.  I think about posting, but I don't do it.  Why?  The lackluster weather has not inspiried me and politics is just too depressing to write about with the liberals tunring us into socialists.  Here are a few quick hits to catch up:

  • I still have the best dog in the world.

  • President Obama is every bit as bad and as socialist as I feared he might be as president.

  • Nancy Pelosi drives me crazy (I know, it's a short drive.)

  • I have seen all of my nieces and nephews within the last month, some of them a couple of times.  I can't believe how adult some of them are - yikes!

  • Joe Bastardi over at Accuweather has predicted that we will feel winter off and on through April.  I wonder if I will see my tulips before June?

  • Mitt Romney won the CPAC straw poll.  That isn't surprising, but I still don't trust him.

  • Bobby Jindal's GOP response to the President's speech was horrible.  The setting, production, and speech all seemed as though they were produced by junior high kids.  Come on, we can do better than that, Mr. Steele.

  • I can't believe the President had the audacity to claim, on live TV, that the "stimulus bill" (AKA Socialist Agenda Legislation) was "pork free".  Does he really think we are all that stupid.

  • Sen. Arlen Specter's offices took their phones off of the hook becasue his constituents were all calling him pleading with him to vote "no" to the Socialist Agenda Legislation.  He ignored us all and voted yes anyway.

  • The liberals have nobody left to attack with President Bush enjoying some well-derserved R & R so they have targeted Rush Limbaugh.  Good luck with that one.

  • The liberals are also going after Karl Rove.  Won't they be disappointed?

  • Now the Democrats have spent the taxes of the next several generations on foolish pork, they are moving on to one of their favorite pet projects: socialized medicine.

  • It doesn't appear as though the Israelis will restrain themselves from striking the Iranians much longer.

  • It appears as though a 25 year old Allegheny County man has died from flu-related complications.  Don't take the flu lightly this year - it's a tough strain.

  • It looks like Pitt will own the number one spot in the NCAA Men's Basketball Tournamnet launches March Madness.   Can the Pens and Pirates help make us the City of Champions again, too?  Not likely.

  • Authorities are planning to build a new trail from Millvale to Harrison.  This trail will tie into the Erie-to-Pittsburgh Greenway and the Pittsburgh-to-Harrisburg Mainline Canal Greenway. The Pittsburgh to Harrisburg Mainline Canal Greenway is 320 miles.  This adds to the regions rich trails including the Herritage Trails and the Montour Trail wich ties into the Great Allgheny Passage. Pittsburghers can now bike from Pittsburgh to Washing ton D.C., travelling almost exclusively on trails.

Pardon the Interruption

Jan 28

Yes, I missed the inauguration and the Steelers win for a trip to the Super Bowl.  I missed all of President Obama's early executive orders, but, I'm back.  The blog was "broken" temporarily, but it's fixed now, so I will try to do better.  Here are a few quick highlights in case you missed them.

  • President Obama has asked for an exception to his new ethics guidelines.

  • President Obama has reinstated abortion funding.

  • President Obama remained silent while the conflict in Gaza raged.

  • Chris Matthews has decided not to run for Senate in PA.

  • We finally have a cold, snowy winter.  This resulted in my pipes (in the ground, outside) being frozen for a week.  Three cheers for Nelson getting them thawed with no breaks, so far!

  • The Steelers are going to the Super Bowl!

  • Troy Polamalu will be featured in a re-make of the Mean Joe Greene Coke commercial from the 70's.

  • I had an awesome trip to Disney World for my birthday.

  • 24 is back.

PIAA AAAA Football Championship

Dec 10

Bethel Park Football Semi-Finals

Watch or Listen Live

If you can't make it out to Hershey to watch the PIAA AAA football championship and cheer on the Bethel Park Black Hawks but you want to follow the action form the warmth of your home here are a few places to tune in.

  • Live television broadcast - PCN.  Verizon FiOS customers do not get this channel.  I would recommend trying to stream live online from the "Streaming" tab found at the top of the page.  Comcast customers should be able to tune in live.

  • Radio - ESPN 1250 AM.  ESPN also streams live over the Internet.

  • Internet - Western PA Football

Preview Show Thursday Night

A two hour preview show will air on PCN on Thurs. at 7:00 PM, featuring a call in program.  You may call in to discuss the game at  1-877-PA6-5001.  The show will feature sports writers from across the state.

 Weather Outlook

After last week's freezing temperatures and snowy driving conditions, travelling fans are sure to have a vigilant eye on this weekend's forecast.

Driving conditions should be clear and temperatures should stay above 25 degrees for the game.  Sounds like another night for long-johns and blankets.
