The are known by different names, "Fiscal Conservatives", "Moderates", but they attempt to marginalize Conservatives who stand firm in their social values, even to the point of falsely representing them as not being conservative enough from a fiscal standpoint. This part of the Conservative movement has little patience for the pro-life part of the movement, and almost act embarrassed by them. It's part of the reason Christian Conservatives were willing to embrace someone with an iffy pro-life record, like Mitt Romney, and through a clearly strong pro-life candidate like Mike Huckabee under the bus. In other words, it is fiscal value that define what is Conservative to this group, not social values.

We need to continue to push the Conservative social issues agenda as well.
I am awake late due to a pretty bad stomach virus so I thought I would throw out some quick hits:

Mike Huckabee has added a new news radio show to his media makeover. His show will be a brief take on the news starting Jan. 5th. I think it will be more long the lines of Paul Harvey than Rush Limbaugh.

The Romney people are still bitter about Huckabee and taking cheap shots at him..check out political blog comments to see what I mean. I have one thing to say to them...."Wahhhh!" Romney is a wash but Huck is here for a while.

Is it just me, or does it seem obvious that other Republican leaders are visibly jealous of Sarah Palin's popularity?

The RNC filed a lawsuit today to have McCain-Feingold declared unconstitutional. How poetically ironic.

Hillary Clinton is rumored to be on the short list for President-elect Obama's Secretary of State. Bring back the royal food tasters, she'd be third in line for the presidency.

A Catholic Priest in South Carolina informed parishioners that if they supported Barrack Obama they needed to do penance before they could take communion because of his gross anti-life stance.

The Steelers are having a pretty good season considering the amount of injuries they have sustained. Most teams would have losing records right now, not be at the top of their divisions given they way they have been beat up.

What's the deal with fining Steeler players for legal hits and only explaining they are hitting too hard? It is football, right?

I found the three freebies from the new SG album (T4G Live) completely underwhelming. It might be nice for people who did not grow up in a mainstream church, but it did not feature new arrangements, new lyrics, or even exceptional talent. It's just a bunch of guys singing hymns that are available on other albums with better arrangements, so what's the point? The only plus is that Bob always sounds good, but he is hard to hear most of the time.

I still have the best dog in the world, who has been very patient with a sick owner for the last three days.

Last night I settled into my favorite over sized chair with a Klondike bar and a diet Cherry Coke, ready to enjoy Mike Huckabee, Rudy Giuliani, and the star of the evening, Gov. Sarah Palin all address the GOP Convention (cool website, by the way) wondering if I should forsake the comfort of my comfy chair to make the long trek to my office and do some live blogging. I had the web up on my PiP window, running from Wii, checking out the latest on Drudge when all of the sudden I heard that dreaded sound that comes the split-second before a power outage. The lights were out, and out for the block from my house down the block.

Since I no longer own a home phone that is not powered by electricity, I whipped out my cell phone to call my friends (Calvettis) to see if they had power and if by chance they were watching the convention. They had power, were watching the convention, and graciously allowed me to join them. So, I dashed two blocks in up the hill, Klondike and soda in hand (hard to eat a Klondike while rushing up a steep hill in case you were wondering - but they melt fast) and joined the Calvettis to watch the speeches.

Mike Huckabee's speech, though littered with his characteristically witty line, concluded on an uncharacteristically sober note, telling a moving story. It was nice to see Governor Huckabee in a setting where people could hear him. He gave a great speech.

Rudy Giuliani was clearly the attack dog of the evening, and who better than a New Yorker to play such a role. He spoke with passion and was very convincing, making the case for Gov. Palin.

When Gov. Palin took the stage, the crowd erupted. Her speech seemed to validate her worthiness as a candidate, address the media bias head on, and demonstrate why John McCain chose her. She isn't just another candidate trying to act like they understand the everyday person - she is the everyday person.

In case you missed her speech, watch below.
