Another Reason Why I Love Pittsburgh

Published by Jenn under Penguins, Pittsburgh

Detroit Fan Thanks Pittsburgh Fans - News Story - WPXI Pittsburgh

This letter was sent from a Detroit Red Winds fan (from Detroit) to the NBC affiliate in Pittsburgh following the Pens narrow loss to the Red wings.

Dear Pittsburgh WPXI NBC 11,

My name is Tony. I am a resident of Detroit and am a Red Wings fan. I would like Station 11 to pass along a message to all the Pittsburgh Penguin fans in the stadium on Wednesday night. Congratulations on a well played hockey season. Thank-You for the respect you showed our Red Wings, applauding, standing, cheering and sticking around for the trophy ceremony. All of you have a lot of class. I don’t know which moved me more, winning the cup or watching all of you in the background on T.V. I’m leaning towards “all of you in the background”. It’s times like this that makes me proud to be an American. We can belong to different States, different cities, root for different teams but still at the end, come together as Americans, hockey fans, good sportsmen and sportswomen. I for one hope that one day I (and hopefully all of Detroit) can return the respect to Pittsburgh that Pittsburgh has shown Detroit. See you next season, Good Luck and again, Thank-You!

Sincerely,

Tony

Live Blogging - Triple OT Pens Game

Published by Jenn under Penguins, Pittsburgh

It’s over! I just started writing this post as Sykora scored the game-winning goal at the beginning of a four minute power play for the Pens.

Game 6 goes back to Pittsburgh. Fleury had 55 saves during this slugfest in Detroit. This game was a total team effort for the Pens and they played with a ton of heart.

Live Blogging - 2nd OT Pens Game

Published by Jenn under Penguins, Pittsburgh

With 2:16 left in the second OT of game 4 of the Stanley Cup finals, the Pittsburgh Penguins are playing their best hockey of the finals.  The Red Wigs better be afraid if the Pens win this one because the Pens have picked up what they lacked in this series in this marathon game: experience.

It’s great to see the Pens playing with such intensity and confidence.  Max Talbot’s empty net goal in the last minute of regulation seemed to breathe new life into the Pens as they turned the tide from 3 unanswered Red Wing goals.

Sid the Kid Leads Pens to Victory

Published by Jenn under Penguins, Pittsburgh

The real Pittsburgh Penguins showed up for game 3 of the Stanley Cup Finals and Sidney Crosby scored two goals in what was the game everybody had been hoping for.

The Pens take on the Red Wings in game 4 at Mellon Arena on Saturday.  The Pens last one the Stanley Cup in 1992, their second consecutive title.

Brief Update

The blog has been silent, but I have not. Actually, I have been busy hacking up a lung with a hard case of bronchitis. I think I am finally on the mend.

A few things I would have blogged about over the last week:

  • The Pens are about the sweep the Philthadelphia Flyers - YEAH!
  • The French should invade Myanmar to administrate relief aid - this junta is ridiculous and people are desperate need of help.  Since Burma was formerly French occupied it makes since for the French to do it.
  • Does the major earthquake in China raise new questions about the Beijing Olympics?
  • Blackberry has announced what will be a sweet looking touch screen for all of you Crackberries out there.
  • I dropped my Treo for what could be estimated as the one thousandth time this week and although the phone quality still stinks, the device still works.
  • I still have the best dog in the world, who’s highlight was when Jill walked in the door this week to take him for a walk.  He has been very accommodating to my extra sleeping and even a little concered at my coughing fits.
  • I have caught up on the Masterpiece Theater Series Cranford (Elizabeth Gaskell) and I love it.
  • My favorite Drudge headline of the week identified Hillary as a “Mountain Mamma”.
  • Two of God’s many kindnesses include modern medicine and Grandma’s old trick of putting ice of inflamed bronchi.
  • Lastly, this photo has new meaning for Chuck, Bethenny, William, & Elisabeth (at least for 6 months)

I did manage to read one entire article on the election this week and it was by Peggy Nonnan, who is perhaps, my favorite commentator.  It is such a shame that her treasure trove of whit is tucked away in the Wall street Journal where she enjoys such a limited, but appreciative audience.  Here is an excerpt:

He’s got this thing. And the Democratic Party, after this long and brutal slog, should be dancing in the streets. Party elders should be coming out on the balcony in full array, in full regalia, and telling the crowd, “Habemus nominatum”: “We have a nominee.” And the crowd below should be cheering, “Viva Obamus! Viva nominatum!”

A Second Sweep and a Turnpike Conference Finals?

Published by Jenn under Penguins, Pittsburgh

The Pittsburgh Penguins are on the verge of their second straight playoff series sweep as they take on the New York Rangers in game 4 of the Stanley Cup playoffs.  It seems very likely that the Penguins will take on the Philadelphia Flyers in the Eastern Conference finals.  The Flyers lead Montreal 3-1 in their conference semifinals series.
