PPG Place Christmas Tree being prepared for Light Up Night 2008

Tonight is light Up Night in Pittsburgh. For the non-'burghers among us, it is when Pittsburgh kicks off the holiday season and unveils its major decorations including the Macy's windows, the skating rink and tree at PPG Place, the Pittsburgh Creche, and is capped off with a Zambelli Fireworks show at 9:00 PM. We are supposed to get some lake effect snow showers to highlight the evening.

A note of interest: The Pittsburgh Creche was originally displayed at the Allegheny County Courthouse. In the 1989 County of Allegheny v. ACLU Greater Pittsburgh Chapter case, a mixed decision ruled that the display of the creche on government property was unconstitutional because it insinuated a government endorsement of Christianity. The creche now has a permanent home down the street (Grant Street) on privately owned property at the site of the U.S Steel Building. The Pittsburgh Creche is the world's only authorized replica of the creche that stands in front of Saint Peter's Basilica in Rome.

PA Must be Closer Than Polls Show

Many polls paraded before us by the media show the spread between Obama and McCain in the double digit area in Pennsylvania. Both campaigns have almost camped out in PA for the last week. If the polls show that PA is gone to Obama, why would both campaigns spend so much time here (besides the fact that it is a great state)?

Be Prepared with Voter Identification

I expect that the left will be out in full force on election day to try to stop Republicans form voting. Be prepared!!! Find out ahead of time what your state requires and take the number to report voting irregularities with you to the polls, especially if you are voting in Pennsylvania or Ohio.

I had the chance to grab the sunset on the Monongahela tonight from the Smithfield Street Bridge. How can anyone doubt that Pittsburgh is the best city in America?
