The fact that so many of us enjoy relatively few health issues in life and live life free of catastrophe is a miracle.

Everyday Miracles

As I sat down to write this, I started thinking about the sheer math of living.

And then it hit me. The fact that so many of us enjoy relatively few health issues in life and live life free of catastrophe is a miracle.

Every year, there are thousands—maybe millions—of opportunities for things to go wrong. Between driving cross-country, the unpredictability of health, and just the course of daily life, the potential for injury or accident is always there.

The fact that we are here, healthy and relatively safe, is nothing short of a miracle. It’s easy to take that baseline for granted, but this year, I’m in awe of the gift.

What I’m Grateful For This Year

Here are some other things that came to mind as I started thinking about gratitude:

  • Health: After my bout with COVID in 2024 and the lingering effects that followed, I’ve learned not to take wellness for granted. I’m also thankful for Rocky’s resilience—despite a health scare and noticeable arthritis, seeing him still enjoy an adventure, play fetch, and engage in his nightly “zoomies” brings me so much joy. I am also grateful that those around me are in good health, despite concerns this year.
  • Safe Travels: I’ve made the trek to the Rockies, the Southeast, and many trips to Ohio this year. When I stop to reflect on the miles logged and the potential for accidents, I am incredibly grateful for the safety that accompanied every mile.
  • My “Safe Ports”: Whether it’s my biological family, work friends, friends who have been in my life for years, or my nuCamp family, I am thankful for the people who provide connection, encouragement, and friendship. I am thankful for those closest to me who have been a “safe port” as I navigated life this year.
  • Work & Professional Confluence: I am grateful for work, nuCamp, my colleagues, and my clients. It has been rewarding to see my worlds collide this year. I’ve loved seeing the skills I’ve gained as a Brand Ambassador merge with my work in Change consulting.  Witnessing the power of communities to help organizations achieve transformation is something I truly enjoy.
  • Faith Amidst the Future: I’ve really dug into Artifical Intelligence (AI) this year. The implications of the pace of the evolution of technology and the uncertainty it can bring can be overwhelming. At times, I’ve wondered if my career might become obsolete before I retire. But my faith grounds me. None of it is unknown to God.
